Mortared and Dry-Laid Walling Stone:-

When you're planning to build a stone wall, the first decision is whether to use mortar or not. Mortared walls need a solid base dug below ground. Mortar holds the stones together, allowing more flexibility in stone choice and wall height.

Dry-laid walls skip mortar. They're easier to maintain and repair because you can reuse the same stones. They're also cheaper since you don't need mortar or a concrete base.

Types of Walling Stone in UK

When you're making a stone wall, you have options for the stones you can use. One choice is granite. It's strong and comes in lots of colors, like gray, black, brown, and white. Another option is limestone and sandstone. These stones can be shaped in different ways and come in colors ranging from tan to gray and white.

Installation of Walling Stone:-

• Stone Shape: Make sure each stone's length is across the wall, not along it. Placing them the wrong way weakens the wall.
• Joint Placement: Every stone should sit on top of at least two others, with joints crossing below. Avoid stacking stones directly on top of each other or lining up joints vertically, as this weakens the wall.
• Leveling: Keep the stones level both on the surface and inside the wall. If the stones are uneven, focus on leveling the top. If that's not possible, slope it towards a nearby stone, but avoid slopes inside the wall.
